Can You Make Extra Money Online From Blogging?

A few of my fellow Malaysian friends came up to me asking about my part-time endeavour as a blogger who tries to make money from it. I’ve got to say almost all of them said that this is a breakthrough story. Some though are still sceptical, reluctant to believe anything, and taking all of this as just a scam. I don’t blame them, as people who don’t know about something, always have this kind of mental block, until they’ve been given some explanations about it.

Correct Mindset

If you noticed, for the past few weeks, I haven’t really talk about ‘How To’ and tips in making money online. Why, you asked? As my superior used to say, tips and how to’s are just the fruits. It’s not really the fruits that you want, but rather you need the correct mindset and attitude to grow the tree that bears the fruits. You can copy all the lists from all ‘money making’ websites out there, but it won’t give you a dime if you don’t do it. You can set up tens of blogs, with the intention of generating large revenues from them, but if you’re thinking that you can get $100 from each blog within one week of launching them, you’re just gonna waste your time.

It’s all about having the correct mindset and attitude if you really want to start making money through blogging (or developing websites). You must know what to expect. As one of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People states ‘Begin with the end in mind’. If you’re not clear where you’re going, it’s practically useless. You must also know what you’re getting yourself into. Know the game, know the rules, know the risk and everything. Have that ready before you’re set to go or you’ll end up going back to your starting point.

Is it a scam?

This is the question I get most often. I don’t know what’s with most of the Malaysians I met, everybody seems to be so sceptical about anything related to making money online. Let me make it clear. Not everything that you read online is a scam, especially making money through blogging and the use of adverts on your blogs or websites. For my Malaysian visitors, I’ve met and spoke with a lot of Malaysians who, some of them, make a living through just blogging. One of my best friends whom I know since my A-Level days has already made on average $400 a month from his website. And that’s just from a static website with very few updates and promotions. I’m sure with a bit more effort, he could easily get a 4-figure income online.

See, this is as real as it gets. Get off your sorry bums and open up your mind. Stop blocking your mind with such useless mindset. I know a lot of us have a blog, why not monetize it so you can finally believe it? Will you lose anything? NO! Read what Steve Pavlina said about putting ads in your blog in his guide to monetize a blog. According to him, he didn’t see any changes whether he put it in or take it off. So what’s with the mindblock? Be optimistic and positive. Take this opportunity and get going.

If you don’t like adsense, then there are plenty more sources of income that you can try. Contextual ads is just one of the way, have you tried affiliate programs? What about writing reviews on certain products that you know of? Yes, you will also get paid for that, in case you didn’t know. If you’ve got a blog, chances are you already know how to write. Why don’t you use it for something beneficial to you and your family. Don’t keep on being sceptical and negative all the time while others are leaving you behind in your misinterpreted dreamland

Final Thought

You can find the proof almost anywhere in the blogosphere. Believe me, this is not a scam. And nobody is paying me to write this. YOU CAN MAKE MONEY ONLINE. I just want you lot to take this opportunity and get going, because in one day, thousands of people probably making money, and you just sitting there staring at your monitor without getting anything. What a waste that is.

This is a public service announcement for everybody around the world (not just a hit on Malaysians). I can only show you the door. You’re the one that has to walk through it.

Over and out!

I agree with you. It is really possible to make a lot of many with a website or a blog. I started “Linkrain” 6 months ago and the first 3 months I did not really worked on it. Now I’m working on my directory and blog every day and I’m averaging 500$/month.

It’s not much but my revenue is increasing every month and I really have fun with my blog :D

By the way, I noticed a plugin on your blog that counts “views” of articles. I would like to add one of those even on my blog, could you tell me where I can find it?

Help would be appreciated.
Thanks

P.S Great blog, I subscribed to your RSS feed :D

Thanks a lot. People sometimes need to just open up their mind a little bit, and probably they want to see our paycheck to finally believe what we’re saying :).

By the way, congrats on your revenue. I’m sure it will increase in the future, judging from your great articles. I learned a lot from you too.

The plugin you need is WP-PostViews. You can get it here

Thanks for your subscription. I’m one of your subscribers as well :)

Nice to hear that you are one of my subscribers!

Thanks for the link to the Plugin. I’m going to install it now :D

Can You Really Make Money Blogging?…

It’s about time every blogger comes out and tell the world that it’s possible to blog and earn at the same time, and it’s not just another scam….

I’m just scared that if I start monetizing my blog, it will alienate my userbase. :( Any concerns about that?

I think it depends on how well you know your visitors. Like Steve Pavlina said in his article, he didn’t see any difference in the traffic, before and after putting ads in his blog.

I would imagine that most loyal visitors would give their support as long as your contents are still at the same quality and standard (probably even higher), and providing your ads are not too excessive. I think you just have to prove to them that having ads in your blog doesn’t interrupt all the good things that you’ve been giving them all these while.

Another thing that you can do is ask your visitors. Make a poll or a post that asks them this question. You’ll get a more thorough view. I’d go for the majority vote.

Or, you can setup another blog from scratch, purposely built to make money from it (but not the scraper or MFA ones). Then probably you don’t have to worry about visitor’s loyalty since you’ll have to start from zero anyway.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for including the link for page views. It has helped me also.

Great article - I especially like the “Correct Mindset” section. So many newbies forget that part and are sorely disappointed when they fail. Mindset, attitude and passion will see you through.

I totally agree. Anyone can make money online, but they must actually do someting. Traffic and sales won’t come in overnight. It takes the right mindset and consistently working towards your goal.
I have several niche websites which earn a fairly decent Adsense income, as well as income from other affiliate programs. But, it took me about a year to see any real money. This doesn’t mean someone can’t make money online faster, but you just need to keep working on it, and you’ll reap the rewards.
