Higher PR Gives You More Opportunities to Make Extra Money

I’ve been enjoying my PR3 since Google awarded it to me 2 months back. I agree with what 5xmom said in her blog, people can keep on being sour grapes saying that they don’t need high PR from Google but the truth is, deep down inside everybody needs high PR. It’s just whether they want to say it out loud or they just don’t want to give in to Google’s regime.

It’s true, in some cases you don’t need very high PR to make money from your blog. If you’ve already built up your list of loyal readers, no matter what your PR is, they will always come back to your blog every single day. In other words, perhaps organic traffic matters less compared to the amount of traffic you get from your subscribers. Look at John Chow. He’s still making a lot of money from private ad sales and affiliate commissions although his PR has been cut down by the Googfather

But having a higher PR opens up a lot more opportunities for you to make extra money. Since gaining my PR3 status, I’ve received 2 offers from TLA (which you can see on my sidebar). I’ve also received more offers from Smorty and Blogsvertise to write reviews. And not just that, those offers also pay me more since my PR is 3 compared to what I received before this.

Then you’re saying ‘Google doesn’t like TLA and sponsored reviews’, so what’s the purpose of having a higher PR if you can’t do anything with it? Well, you can invite advertisers to advertise directly on your blog without using any third party company. For example, you can opt to sell text links but with a nofollow tag attached to each of the link as a rule to advertisers. Advertisers can still buy them to get exposure and traffic (not just to get backlinks from high PR sites).

You can also sell banner ads (the most commonly used are the 125 x 125 on the sidebar above the fold) for whatever price you want them to pay. For high traffic and high PR sites like Zac Johnson and John Cow, that single banner can cost up to $200 per month! These types of advertising strategy will basically give you free money every month.

So what I suggest you (and me) should do to make extra money are :

  1. Ramp up your traffic
  2. Get a high PR for your blog
  3. Change your blog design to allow for banner and text ads
  4. Add an ‘Advertise here’ page to attract and invite advertisers
  5. Charge accordingly
  6. Maintain your reputation
  7. Reassess your blog’s value and ads price as time goes on

I’m detaching myself from TLA and concentrating on direct advertising strategy from now on. Don’t want to lose that PR of mine easily after all the hard work in getting it :)

Higher PR Gives You More Opportunities to Make Extra Money…

It is ironic though for example higher PR more money from TLA but at the same time it will cause you to lose your PR down the line. So the question is, is it worth it?

Got my Zoom anyway ;)

Happy Holidays!
