Any bloggers who are displaying ads on their blogs must’ve been thinking every single day to increase the rate of clicks on the ads. It’s simple, more (legal) clicks means more money to you. There are a lot of methods that can be used to increase the number of clicks such as increasing traffic, proper ads placement etc. But what I’m about to reveal is directly related to the niche you chose when you started blogging. So for new bloggers, you might want to write this down.
Section 1: Understanding the formula
The formula that we used to see everywhere is
High Value Ads + Large Number of Clicks = Big Money!
It’s not rocket science to understand the importance of having ‘expensive’ ads in you blog. The question is:
1. How are you going to make the expensive ads appear in your blog?
Answer : Pick a relevant niche that is closely associated with the ads.
2. How do you do pick a relevant niche?
Answer: Find the expensive keywords that in turn will make up the expensive ads
3. What do you do after finding the keywords?
Answer: Setup a blog that talks about things related to the keywords, i.e. relevant niche
Section 2: Finding a niche that gives you more clicks
This is the key to your success in getting more clicks on your ads so I’m going to elaborate quite in detail here. If you don’t do this correctly, you will end up going back to this section after 2 or 3 months, bemoaning your lack of research on your targeted niche. Getting this bit right requires a lot of time from you. So spend your time wisely, and don’t rush things. You will save a lot of time later in the future if you do this correctly.
a. Know Your Interest
First, you must target the niche that suits your interest or what you enjoy doing. What I did was, I wrote everything that I’m interested in on a piece of paper. It doesn’t matter whether you like it a bit or you really enjoy doing or learning about it. Just write it down. Ask yourself again and again. Probably 5-10 topics should be enough
For example, when I did this brainstorm session, my interests that I could think of were:
1. Photography
2. Basketball
3. Video games
4. Books
5. Foreign Language
6. Tuning Cars
7. Fast Cars
Your list could probably be longer. It doesn’t matter. Write as much as you can to give you more options in selecting the best niche to go for.
b. Expertise level
Next, look at your list again. This time, identify your expertise level on all the topics. Do you really know about it, or you just love reading and learning about it but can’t talk about it much? If you were to write an article about the topic, will you be able to discuss the topic intelligently, or you can only discuss it superficially without being able to dig deeper?
These two criteria, interest and expertise level, must go hand in hand in order to create a blog that contains original and quality articles. Enough of those scraper or MFA sites. We want to create a blog that can help people around the world with our quality contents. So you must not just love your topic, but know your topic, and know it very well.
It could happen that you like certain topics but you don’t really know what to talk about it. You just don’t have enough knowledge. For example, I like reading about tuning cars and I, if I have the cash, would love to tune my cars into road raging machine. But at the moment, I don’t have the knowledge to talk about it. I could just copy and paste someone else’s articles from other websites or forums, but that would be too cheap. I won’t be satisfied managing a blog like that. So I figured, it’d be better if I learn more until I’m feeling confident enough to talk about tuning cars before rushing into setting up a blog that discuss the topic in great details.
So find a topic from your interest list that you’re pretty sure you can talk a lot about it
