f. Get into your visitors’ heads
This is the last and most important bit in finding your right niche on your way to getting more clicks. So far, I haven’t really found any money making bloggers mentioned this in detail. I figured, the trick into getting more clicks depends largely on your target audience.
There are different types of audience that can visit your site
1) Bloggers
2) Information seekers
3) Buyers
In order to get a lot of clicks, we would want to target more buyers to come to our blogs instead of bloggers and information seekers. Why? Because buyers come to our blogs with the intention to buy something, while bloggers mostly know that we’ve got ads in our blogs and they don’t normally click on those ads. Information seekers are the 50-50 ones. They can sometimes be turned into buyers, providing our contents are compelling enough that makes them want to click the ads. Most of the time, they just want to get some information and then leave.
So how do we attract buyers to come to our blogs? That’s where your skill in finding the appropriate niche comes into play. You’ve got to find a niche that implicitly ’sells’ products. Think about it. Read the sentence again and again. Find a niche that implicitly ’sells’ products.
I give you an example. From my list of interests, let’s say I pick basketball again as my niche. If I were to write posts about basketball drills, techniques and tips, what’s the percentage of those that come to my blogs are the buyers? I bet you most of the visitors are the information seekers. They come to my blog, either from other basketball blogs or from search engine, just to get some information on basketball drills and tips, so that they can practice them at their own backyards. Only a small portion of them are the people who are really looking to buy something related to basketball, which in turn will lead them to clicking my ads.
On the other hands, if I pick digital photography as my niche, and narrow it down to writing posts about Canon digital camera and lens reviews, I’m pretty sure that most visitors that come to my blog are the camera enthusiasts or amateur photographers. Being an amateur photographer myself, apart from looking for tips to improve my photography skills, I’d also like to upgrade my gears from time to time and look for the best deals around.
Since my blog is talking about camera reviews, the ads that’re going to show up are the likes of ‘Half price camera lens’, ‘Compare camera prices’ and so on, i.e the ones that buyers and camera enthusiasts are looking for (you can try and predict what ads are going to appear on you blog by using Google Adsense Sandbox Preview Tool or download Google Adsense Preview Tool). Since your audience mindsets are those of the buyers’ even before they came to my blog, those ads are appealing enough to lead them into clicking one (or more) of the ads, although no word in the blog that encourages them to do that
As a bonus, if your post is good and alluring enough, who knows, you might change the information seekers’ minds from just getting information, into buying camera products. And where will they go to? They’ll go on and click your ads.
So, to wrap up this section on finding your profitable niche, I’ll summarize all the key points you need to consider:
a. Find the topic that you love
b. You know a lot about the topic and confident enough to talk about it
c. Pick a timeless topic, the one that can be talked about for many years
d. Pick a topic that many people search for, but not many blogs or websites are talking about it
e. Use high paying keywords
f. And most of all, find a niche that targets the buyers and implicitly ’sells’ products
Go ahead and try it out. I challenge you all to implement these techniques in finding your most profitable niche. Start a new blog and in 6 months time, why don’t you tell us what’s the result and your income. I’m doing it right now as I write this, starting up a couple of blogs. I’ll report back to you in 6 months time. Make it as our date. Mark it in your diaries.
