Section 4 : Get more traffic
After finding your most profitable niche plus the optimum ads settings, it’s time to drive more traffic to your site to increase the chance of getting more clicks on your ads.
There are several popular ways on getting more traffic to your ads. Again the ones that I used or my favourites are
1) Valuable Contents
This will not just create a spike in your daily traffic but will generate a steady flow of large traffic for months or even years. The term valuable could be subjective according to people’s taste, but generally it should mean something that benefits others and worth their time spent at your site. People will just come back for more valuable contents everyday, and from that you will establish your very own large reader base
2) Using social bookmarking/networking sites
I wrote about how StumbleUpon hugely increased my traffic a few days back, and at the moment StumbleUpon still gives me the most traffic from all the social bookmarking sites that I know of. MyBlogLog seems to work well with me as well. The key thing about social bookmarking/networking sites is, you’ve got to make yourself visible. Try adding more contacts and like-minded friends every day, join their community and just socialize. Set yourself an hour or two for all these tasks. Initiate the first move and people will respond. Don’t just leave your blog well hidden in a haystack of thousands others, promote it so that everybody know its existence. Here’s what you can do:
- Register with Mybloglog, Stumbleupon, Technorati, Bumpzee, Plugim, MarkTD, OnlyWire, Digg, Reddit and Del.icio.us
- Setup pages (or lenses as they call it) at Squidoo
- Register with MySpace, Friendster and Facebook (Read Jane May’s post on using Myspace as a marketing tool)
- Start promoting, bookmarking and submitting your articles like crazy
3) Create pillar articles
Once every week or every 2 weeks, write a pillar article and submit it to blog carnivals or articles submission sites such as ezinearticles and AssociatedContent. DailyBlogTips has an article that describes the characteristics of a pillar article. Have a good read on that. Creating and submitting pillar articles regularly, although it takes quite a lot of your time, is absolutely worth it in long run. It gives you the credibility and recognition of your writing skills. And in return, more people will visit your site to find more pillar articles.
4) Keep track of relevant blogs and leave comments.
Find other blogs in your niche and leave some useful and constructive comments. Do it regularly, probably everyday. This will not just make yourself a popular figure in their blogs but also a chance to spread your network and circle of friends. It has to be done regularly otherwise I don’t think people will notice your presence if it’s just a ‘hit and run’ type of comments. You’ve got to make it as though you’re in a conversation with the blog author and the other commentors.
5) Be creative, funny and controversial
Sometimes you just have to be a little bit controversial to get under the limelight. People love controversy. Try writing articles that challenge a system, technique or thought that people have well adopt in their lives (with valid reasons of course). If you don’t like controversy, write something with a hint of humour and be creative. Let your audience enjoy your posts. Try and look at things from a different angle, I’m sure you’ll get some brilliant ideas. For example, I personally like to read Kumiko’s CashQuest posts. He/she blends creativity, funny and controversy all in one bowl. Find yourself a truly unique identity that differentiate yourself from other bloggers.
6) Participate in forums
Register to forums, preferably the ones that are relevant to your niche. Create a signature that links to your blog. Participate actively in discussions and help others to solve their problems. You might also create a new discussion that gives hints and advice to beginners, which will be a good tactic to make yourself present and useful to the community.
7) Learn from the experts
If you haven’t got a copy of the Authority Black Book, I’ d suggest you get it. It contains valuable information on how to increase traffic to your site. I personally have used some of the methods introduced and I’ve got to say it works like a charm. Try it out and see what it can do to your traffic.
