It’s Boxing Day! Time to Give Your Family a Treat

Handzalah’s new shoe from ClarksFrom time to time, it’s good to have a time out and treat your family for a nice holiday or a shopping spree session with your extra money. Everybody likes receiving presents, but it’s more satisfying to give rather than to receive. The joyful look of your children and spouse upon opening up the gifts is priceless. Absolutely priceless. As people used to say, the material doesn’t matter, it’s the thought that counts.

And today I decided to take my family for a little treat down the Southampton city centre. It’s boxing day here in the UK, the time where everything should be theoretically cheaper than normal days. So when it’s cheaper, people go shopping. And we did exactly that.

The first stop was Pumpkin Patch where my children got their clothes. Handzalah, my son got some t-shirts and a belt. Yup since his size is a bit smaller than ’standard’ English boy size, there’s a need to tighten up a bit on the waist. It’s a bit hard to buy pants especially. Generally Asians are a bit smaller than Europeans so finding the right size for your clothes is a daunting job in this country, if you’re Asian that is. That’s why the sight of me buying a pair of pants here is absolutely rare, since I know there won’t be any that suits me. Anyway, Fidaa’ my daughter got her skirt and some t-shirts as well.

Next stop, The Perfume Shop. We tried out some perfumes until I couldn’t distinguish which is which, and that ended up a stalemate. We skipped that until later.

Moving on to the next shop, it’s Clarks. We’ve been planning to buy our children some new pair of shoes for a long while. Handzalah has been wearing his Bob the Builder boots since last year. Not that I didn’t buy him something else, he just loves the boots. Today we had a father and son time together, trying out some shoes that fit his feet and at the end, I chose a pair as shown in the photo above. I didn’t have plenty of choices really. He’s size 6/7 and a lot of them were size 10 and above. But I think I made the right choice, although being a pair of white shoes means it’ll easily get dirty :)

Fidaa’ got her first shoes as well. She seemed a bit reluctant to walk while wearing them at first but after a while, I think she likes them. The shoes fit her really well, although I couldn’t figure out why the right shoe slipped off from her foot from time to time.

We went to Boots to continue our mission on finding a perfume for my wife. After spending almost half an hour sniffing every single perfume displayed (okay that’s a bit exaggerated), we finally settled with…well a perfume with the smell that I like :D And that was the last of the day. Phew!

It wasn’t much but I feel great to see the happy faces of everybody in my household. Handzalah likes his new shoes so much that he ended up falling asleep with the shoes still attached to his tiny little feet. Hopefully that can drag him away from his wellie for a while

See, if you’ve raised some extra money from your online activities, why not treat your loved ones with some surprises. They will like it, and I’m sure you will enjoy it too as much as they do. Put your money to good use :)
