Make Extra Money Online from Targeted Traffic

I haven’t used Google Webmaster Tools very much these days (probably I should have). The one thing I like about it, apart from the diagnostic tool, is the statistics report. And the one I think that’s most useful to get targeted traffic is the query stats. It lists out all the top search queries that bring people to your site, so if you analyse this list, you should have a better picture on your visitors trends.

Surprisingly, the top search query that brings people to this site was Paula’s new list of bloggers salaries, and with an average ranking of 7 in the SERP, that’s a good position to make this site stands out. Another thing that surprises me is this site is ranked first for the search query ‘Paid Typist Scam‘. That is due to the post I made on paid typist scam during the early days of this blog about my experience with a scam job offer for home typist.

In my opinion, you can use this tool in two ways

1. You can either alter the contents of your site according to what people want. In this case, I can probably write more about scam job offers to help those who come to my blog looking for that sort of information

2. OR you should work on your SEO more if the top search queries that bring people to your site are not what you intended them to be. For example, let’s say you blog about digital SLR cameras and therefore would want people to come to your blog while they’re searching for an SLR camera. If however, the top search query for your site is ‘cute cats’ (because you posted the picture of your cat once, and many people link to that post), then probably you need to make your best articles about digital SLR camera more popular and get more people link to them to get the kind of traffic that you are targeting in the first place.

Another tool to use is Google Analytics, which also lists out the number of visitors coming to your site through different mediums such as referral websites and search engines. It also tells you what search queries they used to get to your website. Both Google Webmaster Tool and Analytics are free so use them regularly.

I would advise you to check out how and why people come to your site for a better targeted traffic to your site as well as making the visitors’ time spent browsing through your site worthwhile. If you can get a better understanding of your visitors needs (and you serve them), I’m sure they will come back for more.
