Make Extra Money Online with Helium
Getting paid for writing articles is another great way to try and make extra money online. I was trying to get into Associated Content, only to realize that they only pay those who reside in the USA. So then I tried Helium, which has significantly different concepts than AC
For a start, Helium doesn’t offer any upfront payment once we submitted our articles. Income is earned through advertisement, and there are several factors that determine how much is being paid to us. In my opinion, what happens is, Helium gets some money through Adsense or any other ads that appear on our article page. A proportion of that money will be given to us and that proportion, according to Helium, depends on the article’s ranking, popularity, page views etc. You can also earn money through contests and marketplace where you’ll be paid by publishers looking for specific articles for their own magazines or websites.
The basic submission process is quite simple. You either create a topic yourself, or you can choose from the topics already created by other submitters. I tend to write articles based on topics already created since it’s easier to get approved that way and you’ll get some ideas on what to write based on what others have written. There’s also an interesting feature where you can participate in a debate and write articles based on which side you’re on. So in a way, Helium is also a place where you can freely voice out your views to the entire community in a proper manner, and you get paid for that
Submitted articles will be ranked among other articles within the chosen topic, and this will be done by other submitters in the Helium community itself. So it’s possible that your article can get a high rank in one day and drop to a lower one the next day. Higher rank gives better payout so you would want to make your article as appealing as possible and better than others within the same topic. The way the ranking system works is based on comparison between two articles. You will be presented with two articles within the same topic and you have to pick which one is better ranging from ’slightly more’ valuable, ‘more’ valuable to ‘by far’. The order of which articles are displayed and compared are completely random.
I would love it if Helium also offers upfront payments to the submitters. At the moment, most of your income depends on the advertisement on your articles page (unless you submit your articles directly to the publishers). You still need to generate a lot of traffic to your articles page, have them ranked well in search engines and Helium, target the high-paying keywords, hopefully a lot of people click on the ads and at the end of the day, you’ll get your money based on those factors.
So far I’ve generated quite a few dollars from writing 5-6 articles in a week, so that’s not a bad start. However I’ve yet to see someone actually making a lot of money from Helium. But since I won’t get paid by AC anyway, I guess Helium is currently my best bet to make money by submitting articles online.
