Search for Music and Technology Stuff is Risky

I digged this from Yahoo News website this morning. Apparently what this new study finds is, search terms that are related to music and technology will most likely direct you to sites embedded with spyware and and other nasty stuff you don’t want to keep in your computer. This could be something that bloggers whose blogs are related to music and technology stuff need to be aware of, or new bloggers who’s planning to setup blogs which contain music or technology related articles. Contextual ads program such as AdSense will display ads that are related to the contents of your blog. We don’t want the Google ads displayed in our sites lead to those nasty sites, do we? That is going to be disastrous to our blog visitors and potential income source. Once being directed there, I don’t think they’re gonna come again to our blog.

I’m not sure what’s Google policy and mechanism to filter out websites with malicious codes. I know we as publishers can filter out any ads that we don’t want to appear. But I don’t think me going to these virus infected sites and checking them to be safe is a good idea. Based on the report, it appears that Google flags websites that are deemed risky. Hopefully any AdSense ads are also filtered out by Google. If not, then this is really a big warning to those using contextual ads services (including me, but I don’t blog about music or technology).

There is also a risk for blogs on making money online, from what I see. The ads could lead to scams website, offering quick rich schemes, easy money, work at home scams (just like my story on home typist scam last week) and so on. So I think, there is always a risk no matter what your topic of discussion is. There’s always somebody trying to manipulate the situation for their own benefits, or for just sheer pleasure of bringing misery to people’s life. We just need to be careful all the time, take some safety precautions, make backups and prepare for the worst.
